UNSC Resolution 2231 calls upon Iran "not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons". They voted 98-2 in favor of the legislation. Meanwhile, the National Iranian American Council, which supports the nuclear deal , said the bill amounted to a "new toy" with which Trump could "wreak havoc" in the Middle East. (more...)

Hawai'i's elected officials gathered in Honolulu on Tuesday to show their support for the Paris Climate Accord , following President Trump's announced withdrawal from the global agreement. Mayors from Kauai, Maui and the Big Island also signed a commitment to follow the goals outlined in the Paris agreement. Mysterious ship crash off Japan leaves 7 US sailors missing

Three other sailors were injured in the collision. Family members are frantically seeking news, appealing via social media for sailors aboard the ship to get in touch. The Navy ship collided in the dead of night with a container ship four times its size off the coast of Japan. It was questioning crew members of the ACX Crystal , which is operated by the Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen KK, and is treating the incident as a case of possible professional negligence, said Masayuki ... The U.S. 7th Fleet said on its Facebook page that the number of injuries is still being determined. There was no immediate explanation as to the cause of the collision. No one aboard the Crystal was hurt, and no oil spilled from the vessel, NYK said. The port side of the Filipino vessel was damaged, the coast guard said. (more...)

The Senate this week approved legislation to impose new sanctions on Iran over its ballistic missile program and other activities that USA legislators say are not related to the nuclear agreement. The 100-member Senate backed the measure by a margin of 98-2. The Senate yesterday overwhelmingly passed tough sanctions on Iran for its alleged "continued support of terrorism" and the bill has been sent to the House of Representatives for approval. (more...)
