An Afghan government spokesman said a suicide attacker detonated a bomb in his auto in a mainly Shia neighbourhood in the west of the city. He added: "We assume the vehicle wanted to target Mr Mohaqiq's house but was stopped by guards". The area of western Kabul has been the scene of several previous attacks. The region has witnessed a spate of attacks, including a suicide attack last month which killed prominent Shiite Muslim cleric Ramazan Hussainzada. (more...)

A federal grand jury in the USA state of Hawaii has indicted a soldier who swore allegiance to an Islamist terror group for attempting to give it material support, local media said Saturday. The air traffic controller had served on tours of Iraq in 2011 and Afghanistan in 2014. In an interview with a Hawaiian television station, Sergeant Kang's father, Clifford Kang, said his son's behavior could be traced to post-traumatic stress disorder from his service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Kyla Niec, 6, and Avery Niec, 7, greet the new Snooty mascot at the Snooty Birthday Bash and Wildlife Festival held at the South Florida Museum on Saturday. Snooty has lived in Bradenton since April of 1949. The 69-year-old manatee was killed in a "heartbreaking accident", museum officials said. But it wasn't until 1998 that Snooty could begin enjoying the company of fellow manatees after a male orphan was introduced to his 60,000 gallon pool, the first of a rotating cast of rescued ... Those plans were scuppered this morning when the pair's boat overturned, activating its EPIRB signal which was picked up by Valentia Coast Guard. They had planned to complete the crossing in less than 40 days. The Coast Guard received a call from one of the people on the boat saying that they were in the breakers in the Shallotte Inlet and they were in distress. (more...)
