Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the country on Monday, Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari said on Sunday. According to police, strong winds uprooted a pine tree that crashed into the ropeway, which gave way and the cable auto attached to it came hurtling down. Gulmarg is the only ski resort in Jammu and Kashmir, with tourists also visiting in the off-season for the views. A local guide named Mukhtar Ahmed was also killed in the accident. (more...)

Recent Russian reports that he was killed have not been confirmed by the coalition or Iraqi authorities. The Interior Ministry said it launched a raid around Jiddah, as well as two areas in Mecca itself, including the Ajyad Al-Masafi neighbourhood, located near the Grand Mosque. Camden Council said it made a decision to evacuate the buildings on the Chalcots Estate after fire inspectors told officials that the blocks were "not safe for people to sleep in overnight". The man who was shot dead at a Brussels train station Tuesday after attempting to explode a suitcase of nails and gas canisters was unknown to authorities as a terror suspect, a Belgian prosecutor said today. Pierre Meys, a fire service spokesman, told RTL that some kind of explosion has happened in the station, but it is unclear what caused the blast.
