The Houston Airports advises passengers to stay in touch with their air carriers for the most accurate information regarding specific flight status. The airline is waiving change fees from August 24-29. The FAA expects that airport might reopen noon Monday. As Uber continues in its attempt to fix its image following a string of scandals, the company has seen a 17 per cent increase in gross bookings in the second quarter to $8.7bn (£6.8bn) - double that of a year earlier. Since 2010, Uber has raised more than $15 billion from investors, which has allowed it to operate at a loss. Uber is now in need of a CEO, COO, CFO, CMO and SVP of engineering. (more...)

The original "Kangaroo Route" pioneered by Qantas had seven stops and took four days. Full-year earnings at Qantas's domestic business rose 12 percent to a record. The state Economic Development Authority board awarded $19.65 million in state investment tax credits for a pledge to create at least 50 jobs, at a qualifying wage of at least $29.12 per hour. The company plans to build a $1.3 billion facility in Waukee, which is about 20 minutes outside the state's capital. IEDA director Debi Durham believes the 50 jobs created by Apple are just a small piece of the project's benefit to the state. (more...)

That prompted North Korea to say it was considering plans to fire missiles at the USA island territory of Guam. Preliminary GDP data for Germany revealed growth of 0.6% in the June quarter, just shy of market forecasts of 0.7%. The preliminary estimate showed GDP growth rose by 0.6% between April-June compared with the same period a year ago. The Statistics Office will publish its detailed GDP growth data on August 25. The German economy extended its growth spurt in the second quarter, playing into the hands of Angela Merkel as she bids for a fourth term as chancellor. (more...)
