The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 41.67 points, or 0.19 percent, to 21,425.47, the S&P 500 had lost 0.62 point, or 0.03 percent, to 2,436.41 and the Nasdaq Composite had added 44.02 points, or 0.71 percent, to 6,232.05. The S&P 500 gained 20.31 points, to end at 2,453.46, with information technology leading eight sectors higher and energy underperforming. The hotter the temperature, the harder it is for a plane to get enough air beneath its wings to lift it.
