Falcon 9 Block 5 poised for launch at Kennedy Space Center

SpaceX's Second Falcon Heavy Rocket Spectacle Slips to October

Meanwhile, SpaceX will launch its first Falcon 9 block 5 rocket on Thursday with a satellite owned by Bangladesh as the payload. Poised for launch atop the Falcon 9 rocket is Bangabandhu 1, Bangladesh's first communications satellite.

SpaceX is readying an upgraded version of its Falcon 9 rocket for launch Thursday - the first of its kind.

The launch window opens at 4:12 and runs until 6:22 p.m. There's just a 20 percent chance that bad weather will spoil the attempt, officials with the U.S. Air Force's 45th Weather Squadron said on Monday (May 7).

The first stage of the rocket will target a landing on a robotic drone ship off the Florida coast shortly after liftoff. Company officials have said the Block 5 model could potentially be used 10 times or more, while the current Falcon 9s have never been used more than twice. When Block 5 proves itself today, the US space program will be one step closer to the first crew mission in years.

The upgrades are all created to make Falcon 9 rockets, which SpaceX has already been recovering and using multiple times to cut costs on future missions, even more durable. Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will be deployed into a geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) approximately 33 minutes after launch. It was designed and built by Thales Alenia Space with a lifetime service design of at least 15 years. SpaceX founder Elon Musk said the launcher is "most powerful" and features the most "reusable design to date". The satellite will bring uninterrupted telecommunication system in Bangladesh.

Falcon 9 and its three-core sibling, Falcon Heavy, will fill the gap and help fund research and development until BFR's debut.

-An enhanced heat shield at the base to better survive re-entry, which gives the rocket more reusability capabilities.
