Mueller gives list of questions to Trump's lawyers

Dershowitz: Mueller questions aim to trip up Trump

Special counsel Robert Mueller hopes to ask President Donald Trump dozens of open-ended questions as part of his inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

What involvement did you have concerning platform changes regarding arming Ukraine?

The president has repeatedly has called the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller a "witch hunt" and insists there was no collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation.

It's unclear to whom Trump was referring about the leak.

According to the newspaper, numerous questions centre on the obstruction issue, including Trump's reaction to Attorney General Jeff Sessions' recusal from the Russian Federation investigation, a decision Trump has angrily criticised.

"No questions on Collusion", Trump tweet-crowed.

President Trump condemned the leak on Twitter Tuesday. The Times pointed out that a few questions also relate to Trump campaign aides' behavior toward Russian Federation.

Barbara McQuade, a former USA attorney from the Eastern District of MI, said one question stood out: Campaign outreach from Manafort to Russian Federation about potential assistance with the campaign.

Trump's reference to "illegally leaked classified information" is an allusion to the memos Comey kept about his interaction with the president. Mr Manafort also reportedly offered to give a government-connected Russian billionaire a briefing about the campaign in July 2016.

Trump says the investigation is a "witch hunt" and insists his campaign did not collude with Russian Federation. And he reportedly wants to ask Trump about what he knew about Russia's campaign to infiltrate the USA election via social media.

The list includes questions about Mr. Trump's firings of former FBI Director James Comey and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, his treatment of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and a meeting at the Trump Tower between campaign officials and a Russian offering dirt on Hillary Clinton, The Times said.

He followed that tweet up with this one - a variation on a theme: "It would seem very hard to obstruct justice for a crime that never happened!"

Not accurate, though many TV news pundits have been impressed by how numerous questions focus instead on whether Trump obstructed justice. The Times report said it had condensed and paraphrased the questions themselves. Outside lawyers have said they would counsel Trump against talking with Mueller. The document put together by Trump's lawyers was then provided to The Times "by a person outside Mr. Trump's legal team". Mueller was appointed to oversee the investigation by the deputy attorney general Rod J. Rosenstein after Trump fired Comey in May 2017.
