Apple is apparently working on mixed reality glasses with 8K displays

Apple 8K VR and AR Headset T288 Rumor Surfaces

If this is the case, Apple could potentially announce the product ahead of time towards the end of next year, with a launch following several months later.

According to an inside source, Apple is working on a headset that combines virtual reality and augmented reality but does not require to be connected with a computer or smartphone, CNET reported. This headset will apparently come with technology that so far does not exist.

But while, rivals like Microsoft, Google, and arch-rival Samsung have made giants leaps in the field of AR and virtual reality (VR), Apple has seemed rather bullish on the technology, having so far only integrated it in its latest iOS version. That would be an insane amount of pixels.

Both, the Lenovo and the Oculus stand-alone VR headset, offer 1,280x1,400 per eye, how Apple would reach 8K per eye in 2 years time is rather unlikely in my mind.

For now, it isn't real and nobody should get too excited for vaporware.
Apple's headset could fix this.

The wireless technology that Apple will use for the T288 is allegedly the 60 GHz WiGig. All that the user needs to enjoy the technology are the headset and the box.

The report further sheds some light on what a user can expect from the setup, by stating that the "box" would be powered by a custom 5nm processor that is said to be "more powerful than anything now available" in the market, and it is said to be similar to the in-house chip that would be powering the future MacBooks. Apple may announce it before the expected date or at a later one, things are not decided yet. Apple has been rumored to be developing its own processors for Mac computers with the aim of discarding Intel chips by 2020, so the headset-powering processor could be part of this initiative. Sure, there's the occasional AR hit such as Pokémon Go and the VR hit such as Audio Shield, but both virtual platforms can hardly be described as must-have right now.
