Bon Jovi inducted into Hall of Fame

Howard Stern is on his way to Cleveland

On Saturday, April 15, these artists were inducted in a ceremony that was full of memories and music at Cleveland's Public Auditorium. They've had a string of classic rock anthems since their first album in 1984 including "You Give Love a Bad Name, ' "Livin" on a Prayer" and 'Wanted Dead or Alive'. They all hugged as a group afterward.

During a 20-minute speech, Jon Bon Jovi recounted the band's rise to superstardom from basements to sold-out arenas. "Some days I write the thank you speech, other days, I write the fuck-you speech".

The Democratic governor hailed the band as "one of the most famous, enduring rock bands of all time".

"We've had this in the works since December", Ms. Weir, 66, said, adding she and her husband have seen the Moody Blues more than 30 times. The band was inducted by radio and television personality Howard Stern.

Simone, who died in 2003, was welcomed into the Rock Hall in a groundbreaking way from performers who she has deeply inspired, from Lauryn Hill and Andra Day to Mary J. Blige.

After an "In memoriam" montage of those who passed in the previous year, Heart's Anne Wilson and Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell delivered a tribute to Chris Cornell. Cornell hanged himself in a Detroit hotel hours after a Soundgarden concert there last May.

The Moody Blues, the Cars, Dire Straits, Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe were also inducted into the Hall of Fame. He began by milking the crowd for a standing ovation before saying a word. "I've got mixed emotions", he said.

Simone was a leader in pushing for civil rights and influenced everyone from Aretha Franklin to Alicia Keys.

Blige feels a deep connection to Simone and said the women share an ability to ease people's pain and "help people heal".

R&B-infused progressive rockers the Moody Blues took the stage to perform "Your Wildest Dreams", while New Wave pop songwriters the Cars played "Just What I Needed".

Brothers Mark and David Knopfler, of English rockers Dire Straits, won't attend the event, according to bassist John Illsley. "It's personal reasons, let's just leave it at that", Illsley continued.

Illsley thanked the entire band and described the group as "a collective, a brotherhood".

"When the band first started, Ben was supposed to be the lead singer".

It's only rock "n" roll, but do you like what the celebs are wearing? Howard was backed by an equally appealing Questlove of The Roots on the drums.

Alec John Such also rejoined the band for the special performance.

"It's been long overdue".

The Cars have pulled into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Tharpe died in 1973 and was a pioneering guitarist who performed gospel music.

The band paid tribute to the late founding bassist and co-lead singer with a performance that inlcluded his biggest songs.

The Killers' frontman Brandon Flowers returned to the stage to present The Cars, a group he felt still sounds like a new act. "It's quite odd to be here without him", Ocasek said in reference to Orr. "We're getting to the age where we want to enjoy ourselves as much as we can", Ms. Weir said. "It was actually the first place I played music in front of people".

The 2017 induction ceremony will be broadcast on cable channel HBO on May 5.
