North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to convene emergency meeting on Syria

NATO head to pay official visit to Turkey on April 16

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the strikes were about making sure chemical weapons can not be used with impunity.

Stoltenberg noted that "it will reduce the ability of the regime for applying new attacks against the Syrian people using chemical weapons".

"Saudi Arabia fully supports the strikes launched by the United States, France and Britain against Syria because they represent a response to the regime's crimes", a foreign ministry statement said.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged the members of the organisation to show moderation in the prevailing "dangerous" climate and to respect global law.

"I urge all member states to act responsibly in these risky circumstances", Guterres said.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has expressed support for the US -led strike against Syria, calling it essential to enforce the Chemical Weapons Convention.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation said the strikes had wholesale support.

The U.S. -led strikes on Syria are justified because of the "murderous actions" of the Damascus government, an Israeli official told the Associated Press.

"No. Actually on the contrary, I think if we have just been silent, and accepted the use of chemical weapons, it would have undermined the efforts to find a political solution".

The White Helmets, a civil defense agency, blamed the Assad regime for the alleged chemical attack, which it said killed 78 civilians and injured hundreds of others. As a result of this attack at least 70 people died.
