Seahawks 86'd Kaepernick Workout Over Kneeling Stipulation

DEC. 11 2016 FILE

The Colin Kaepernick collusion case, with Kaepernick claiming he can't get work because he kneeled during the national anthem, may have gotten a shot in the arm after the Seattle Seahawks reportedly cancelled a meeting with Kaepernick after the quarterback declined to stop kneeling next season.

"Seattle still is considering bringing in Kaepernick for a tryout, and no decisions are final", Schefter reported, citing "a source".

This comes at a time in which the Cincinnati Bengals visited with San Francisco 49ers free-agent safety Eric Reid, who also knelt with Kaepernick during the anthem, and wanted assurances from Reid that he would not participate in on-field activism. There were conflicting reports as to whether Kaepernick kneeling in protest during the national anthem played a role.

The NFL responded by increasing the amount of protests, and the movement became more against Trump than any of the issues that Kaepernick is fighting for. Marcus Smith knelt for the anthem in December 2017 and then was re-signed by the team in March 2018.

Over a year later, Kaepernick still doesn't have a spot on an National Football League roster.

We're told Kaepernick would not agree to that stipulation - so the Seahawks called off the workout, despite the fact travel plans had already been arranged.

Kaepernick made national headlines throughout the 2016 season when he kicked-off the trend of player protests during the 'Star-Spangled Banner'.

The Seahawks are working to establish a backup quarterback for Russell Wilson. Therefore, he's still a free agent.

I don't know how the Seahawks or anyone else could expect Kaepernick to renounce kneeling at this point as a condition of signing him.

Kaepernick is not the only player rumored to be facing a blowback for participating in the protest.

Three NFL owners are on the deposition list for Kaepernick's lawsuit: Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots and Bob McNair of the Houston Texans. During his visit, owner Mike Brown would question Reid about his anthem protests.
