Mitchell 'doesn't care' that Simmons Believes he's ROY

Sixers Head Coach Brett Brown: Ben Simmons 'Stone-Cold' Rookie Of The Year

Australian Ben Simmons and Serbian Nikola Jokic were announced as the NBA Players of the Week on Monday, the first time two worldwide players have swept the awards in four years.

"It's not Ben's fault but [Donovan Mitchell] is a TRUE rookie", Jefferson wrote in a Snapchat post Tuesday.

Mitchell went off for 12 of his team-high 22 points in the first quarter, including a sick crossover that dropped Draymond Green to the ground off a pick and roll with Rudy Gobert, then capped the play off with a scoop layup at the rim. Because Simmons made his National Basketball Association debut this season, he is considered a rookie. Obviously, his opinion on the Simmons situation is a bit of a biased one. Simmons also stated there were no other rookies who have caught his attention this year.

Ben Simmons or Donovan Mitchell? "Without my teammates' help, I wouldn't even be in this spot, but I didn't think about it until I heard it from the courtside".

Simmons is tipped to claim Rookie of the Year, having sat out his first season with a foot injury - the Philadelphia 76ers star averaging 16 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists.

"No, he's implying that I am a rookie because it's my first season", Simmons said when told Mitchell's sweatshirt implied Simmons was not a rookie. Clearly, I'm not the one losing sleep over this.

There is no question Simmons is the favourite for the award and Mitchell is close behind.

Mitchell's 20.5 points, 3.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game this season saw the Jazz now stand as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference as they recently clinched a playoff spot for the second straight season despite the departure of Gordon Hayward in the offseason.

Simmons then shot back after their game in Atlanta, telling reporters, "If his argument is I'm not a rookie, if that's the only argument he has, I'm in pretty good shape".

Mitchell, the electric guard who has propelled the Utah Jazz to a playoff berth, gave his own silent statement on the issue Tuesday night before the Jazz took on the defending champion Golden State Warriors. However, I'll take Mitchell's tone off the floor every day of the week.
