Apple Inc. loses a patent infringement lawsuit against VirnetX

Incidentally, in the fourth quarter of past year, the U.S. District Court had ordered Apple Inc.to pay almost Dollars 439.

VirnetX is a patent-assertion entity, meaning its entire business model rests exclusively on suing companies that actually develop and sell products based on arcane patent infringement laws and loose interpretations of intellectual property regulations.

The eight-year-old (so far) legal battle between Apple and VirnetX has taken a new turn after a Texas federal court ordered the iPhone maker to pay $502.6 million to the company.

For those who don't know, VirnetX is essentially a patent-holding company. The case isn't dead yet though, the USA legal system has plenty of room for additional appeals and Apple is exploring those options already.

The evidence was clear. Later on, the company was ordered by the district court to pay more than United States dollars 400 million as damages to the patent-holding company VirnetX for copyright violations.

Reports claim that the legal battle between Apple includes many legal suits and a myriad number of appeals. In 2016, the US Patent and Trademark Office's Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) invalidated four VirnetX patents in a related case, two of which were leveraged in the case decided this week. For VirnetX, the jury verdict in its favour could be a short-lived victory.

Presently, Apple had once again chose to challenge the judgement of the USA district court in the Federal Court of Texas. There have been multiple trials, most recently one involving earlier versions of the Apple devices. That's because PTAB believes VirnetX's patents are invalid even for cases now in progress.
