Ravens Sign Robert Griffin III to a 1-Year Deal

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

In jaw-dropping news this Wednesday, the Baltimore Ravens signed quarterback Robert Griffin III. Griffin's last start came January 1, 2017 (Week 17 of 2016 season) in a Browns loss to Steelers. He was the starting QB of record in the only win in the Hue Jackson era in Cleveland, though RGIII did leave that game - against the Chargers in 2016 - with an injury too.

As the No. 2 overall pick by the Washington Redskins in 2012, Griffin burst onto the season as one of the most electric young quarterbacks the National Football League has seen.

Over the course of his four seasons in the NFL, Griffin has appeared in 42 games, 40 of which he started.

Originally selected by the Washington Redskins with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the 2011 Heisman Trophy victor saw early success in his pro career, earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors while leading Washington to a playoff appearance.

The quarterback, 28, will serve as a veteran back-up to starter Joe Flacco following a whole year out of the sport after he was released by the Cleveland Browns in March.

"Very excited about it", explained Head coach John Harbaugh. He's in very good shape. Obviously, his personality, he's a confident guy. We're excited about it. "I really feel that way". "I felt like he really wanted to be a Raven". [He] just felt like this was the place for him. The Baltimore Ravens have come to terms with the former 2011 Heisman Trophy victor on a one-year deal.

Griffin responded to the signing by tweeting his new team's mantra, #playlikearaven.
