Chandrababu Naidu Embarasses Modi in Delhi

Telugu Desam party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu will be arriving in Delhi tonight

Naidu said as he played out three clips of Prime Minister Narendra Modi promising special category status to Andhra. "They did a few minor things, but major part of (Andhra Pradesh) bifurcation act was not implemented". Since March 16, the TDP has unsuccessfully tried to move a no-confidence motion against the Modi government in the Lok Sabha that hasn't been taken up because of lack of order in the house.

Mr. Naidu, who is on a two-day tour of the capital, met a host of Opposition leaders in Parliament on Tuesday. Since his arrival in Delhi on Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh chief minister has met leaders from the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, AIADMK, DMK and Shiv Sena to drum up support for his demands.

Meanwhile, the TDP MPs continued to protest outside the Parliament building, demanding Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh. "In doing so, he will gauge as to which political party is willing to reach out to the TDP on issues concerning the state as well as exploring the possibility of forging alliances ahead of next year's elections", they said. Naidu said that "politics" can wait since there is nearly a year time for the next general elections.

"When his party brought in the no-confidence motion, Mr. Naidu spoke to our leader Mamata Banerjee".

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister in a letter to the prime minister said that the ruling of the Supreme Court weakens the spirit and the protective nature of the Act and makes SC/ST highly vulnerable to atrocities. "The chairman and member of the Finance Commission said their mandate was only to accord funds to state and the Centre".

The BJP countered Naidu's comments with HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar saying, "We believe in Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas (development for all). I am asking for peoples rights but they are attacking us and mudslinging ..."

Reiterating the Centre's commitment towards the development of Andhra Pradesh, Javadekar ridiculed Naidu's politics.

Subsequently, the BJP refuted Naidu's charges and ridiculed him for his attempts to seek support from the Opposition.

"You fought against Congress and now you are meeting with Congress leaders", he said and added that he was pained by the fallout. "Ours was a pre-election alliance and it was a collective mandate that we got", he said.

He later tweeted, "Interacted with NCP president Sharad Pawar, NC president Farooq Abdullah, TMC leaders Derek O'Brien, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Jyotiraditya Scindia from Congress regarding no-confidence motion, highlighted the injustice done to AP for its special status".
