Apple is working on new touchless controls for its displays

HomePod Stereo Pairing And AirPlay 2 Might Arrive With iOS 11.4 As Per Latest Reference

The work comes as the Cupertino, California-based smartphone pioneer looks to make its gadgets stand out.

Whether either of these features ever gets implemented into a single iPhone remains a mystery, so for now, all we can do is speculate. The curved displays will reportedly "curve inward gradually from top to bottom". It will release a second iPhone with that type of screen later this year; a larger model with a 6.5-inch screen, up from the 5.8-inch size in the current iPhone X. The company is also working on an update to the iPhone X's size and a new, lower-cost LCD model. So far, every iPhone model has used a flat display. The only one that has a slight curvature is the iPhone X. Samsung has successfully been producing phones with curved edge-to-edge displays since the Galaxy S6 Edge made its debut in 2015. As a result, the Apple rumor mill has been working overtime lately. Of course, they've never done an inverted curved screen before, but considering Apple's doing it, they may follow suit.

Aside from curved screens, Apple is also said to be working on a touchless gesture control technology for its iOS smartphones. This is expected to allow users to control their devices by simply moving their finger close to the display, without physically needing to touch the panel. It's like hovering a finger over the display to control it.

Bloomberg says that these features are likely two years away from release.

It's worth noting that Samsung came up with a similar technology several years ago. Apple's implementation does not require a motion sensor though.

An Apple spokesperson has declined to comment on the leaked information regarding Apple's two new projects. Potentially, this might be meant to serve a similar objective as the 3D Touch feature that Apple has been including in iPhones since 2015.
