FXX No Longer Making Animated Deadpool Series

FX Pulls the Plug On Marvel's Deadpool Animated TV Series From Donald Glover

Despite granting it a ten-episode straight-to-series order a year ago, FX Networks has announced that they have scrapped their plans for a Deadpool animated series from Donald Glover and Stephen Glover. The goal had been to launch a new FXX animated series behind Season 9 of Archer in 2018, with Marvel's Deadpool considered a strong contender. FX was all-in, too, giving the project a 10 episode straight-to-series order last year, to premiere this year on FXX.

FX released a statement on Saturday confirming their exit from the series along with Glover, citing "creative differences" with Marvel TV.

In addition to being a writer and producer, Glover is also an actor known for his work on the TV series Atlanta and Community. It has yet to be confirmed whether the show will continue with another network and, if so, if the Glovers will remain involved.

As Deadline noted, it's possible Marvel Television will try to find another home for the "Deadpool" project. "We really wanted to make something that was distinctly different from the movie". He will also be starring in a number of high-profile projects including Solo: A Star Wars Story and a remake of The Lion King. Until its definitive cancellation, it could still move forward with the acquisition of key staff and a new distributing TV network.

It would have been the second TV collaboration between FX and Marvel, following Legion in 2017. Whether or not the Deadpool one will follow suit remains unknown at this time.

The news comes two months before Marvel's feature side will bow Deadpool 2.

The hype surrounding Marvel's next Deadpool film is starting to build as its May release date draws closer and closer. The first Deadpool movie was a big box office record-breaker when it released in 2016, the upcoming sequel appears to be following it will be following in its predecessor's footsteps.
