Boko Haram in ceasefire talks with Nigerian government

Leah Sharibu may be released today, Ibrahim Idris says

He, however, said that was not what he meant as he was "misquoted".

In all, 105 of the 111 schoolgirls abducted on February 19 from their boarding school in Dapchi were released on Wednesday, raising questions about possible ransom payments.

Police Inspector General Muhammed Abubakar said Saturday that he cancelled a trip to Dapchi to avoid interfering with the release.

The federal government says contrary to the reported figure of 110, Boko Haram insurgents abducted 113 persons from Government Girls Secondary and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe state.

"I have visited the schools to assess our deployment to the schools; I am here now to visit the military and I spoke to all my officers in the three commands, to encourage them to have a greater synergy with the military and other security agencies".

Of more than 100 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram last month, most have spent their first night back home to Dapchi since being released by the jihadist group. She also spoke about her central role in facilitating the release of the other Dapchi girls.

It would be recalled that one of the freed girls, Khadija Grema told newsmen that one girl was left behind because she refused to denounce her faith.

They said the report did not account for two more girls, one of which went to sell satchet water to pupils in the school.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on Saturday, March 24, confirmed that Sharibu's release is imminent.

Information Minister Lai Mohammed said the girls were released following negotiations with the insurgents and that no ransom payment or prisoner swap was carried out.

President Muhammadu Buhari vowed on Twitter to do "everything in our power to bring Leah back safely".

Speaking at the gathering, the member representing Gujba, Gulani, Damaturu, Tarmuwa, Yunusari and Dapchi at the House of Representatives, Bukar Goni, informed the gathering that all the students were found to be in good health condition and thanked the President, the Yobe state governor and all Nigerians for their support throughout the period of their captivity.
