United gives $10K travel voucher to 'bumped' passenger

A Washington D.C woman received a pleasant surprise after being booted from a recent United Airlines flight: a $10,000 travel voucher.

The airline confirmed they issued the voucher in a statement.

United raised the amount bumped passengers can get to $US10,000 a year ago after its PR disaster over violently dragging a passenger off an overbooked flight.

But the move enraged Preiss, a communications director, who went on Twitter to vent to her 2,215 followers. United couldn't board her because a seat broke on the plane, according to Preiss, and no one volunteered to give up a seat.

Then this: "I AM THE LOWEST FARE PASSENGER", Preiss tweeted. "TEN THOUSAND", she tweeted. For a flight that THEY oversold.

"United is offering $1K in travel credit for an oversold flight". The United agent subsequently told Preiss she could offer her up to a $10,000 voucher.

United bumped up its free credit cap to $10,000 in 2017 after Dr. David Dao was beaten and injured while being removed from an overbooked flight.

She took it. Along with two $10 meal vouchers. Most recently, they caused a puppy to suffocate in an overheard bin and accidentally sent a different dog to Japan instead of its intended destination in Missouri.

It's also important to be aware of any connections between different airlines during the trip, Passman said, as carriers don't interline pets, meaning the owner would have to collect and recheck the animal when switching carriers. She wrote on Twitter, "I am going to go INSANE at Pizza Hut".
