Nigerian forces failed to act on mass abduction warnings: Amnesty

Boko Haram returns some of the girls it kidnapped last month

Military officials responded in forceful terms to Amnesty's accusations, with a spokesman suggesting the group was being "economical with the truth" and trying to undermine "our military and our institutions".

Why it matters: Boko Haram on February 19, 2018, stormed a school in Dapchi, a town in the northeastern state of Yobe and kidnapped at least 110 girls aged 11-19 years old.

The group expressed concern "about the actual motive of AI, and it's persistent criticism of the Nigerian security forces".

"The question Amnesty International has not answered satisfactorily is; which of the security forces and what unit was informed that a convoy of Boko Haram fighters were heading towards Dapchi to abduct Dapchi school girls?"

It warned AI against actions that could sabotage the efforts of the security agencies and indirectly gingering the Boko Haram terrorists.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called the Dapchi abduction a "national disaster" and vowed to use negotiation rather than force to secure their release.

"Amnesty published a report in 2014 that Nigerian army were violating human rights, the United States government refused to supply us weapons to fight Boko Haram because of it", Agim told CNN Monday. "And so, could not have ignored the warning of Boko Haram attack only to work tirelessly to get the girls back", the statement read in part.

Nigeria's military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The question is; what is the motive of the AI? Even the word "girls" on the school sign outside has been painted over in black - hidden from the world, just like the 219 students who are still missing. The answer is simple; President Trump of the United States of America has agreed to collaborate with the current government of Nigeria to end insurgency in the North East and AI wants to do everything within its powers to make sure that the US-Nigeria Anti-Terrorism cooperation does not succeed in accordance with their paymasters design.

The source said the Idris will also visit Dapchi community in Yobe State to commiserate with their families of the 110 abducted girls.

The Nigerian army and the police received at least five calls up to four hours before militants raided a boarding school in Dapchi last month, but they did not take measures to stop the abduction or to rescue the girls after they were gathered into vehicles and driven away, Amnesty said in a news release.

"The revelation by this worldwide body has further reinforced our demand that the National Assembly should immediately conduct an independent, comprehensive and system-wide inquest to unravel the truth about this abduction, as many Nigerians still believe that there is more than meet the eyes in this Dapchi abduction saga,"‎ he said.

"What was the telephone numbers used to inform the Military or the Police?"

Speaking on the withdrawal of police personnel, the IG said the withdrawal would be nationwide.

According to him, "the attention of the Yobe State Police Command has been drawn to reports on the issue of the Dapchi attack that the police was informed hours before the attack on Dapchi town on 19/02/2018".
