Wheelchair, limitations, fame; Stephen Hawking quotes on everything

This Morning's Holly Willoughby

Capital High School physical science teacher, DeLacey Humbert, based her thesis on Hawking's work.

When thinking about Hawking's perspective on life, I am reminded how incredibly blessed I am.

Beginning in 2003, I started to work on applying principles of quantum communication theory to the black hole problem funded by a generous grant from the Army Research Office.

Humbert also spoke with students about Hawking as the man, who was continually told he couldn't achieve success through his work because of his diagnosis. "I have so much I want to do first".

Once recalling his early school memories, Hawking had said, "I was never top of the class at school, but my classmates must have seen potential in me, because my nickname was "Einstein".

But she and Hawking ultimately divorced in 1995 after 30 years of marriage. Those things may be true and shouldn't be taken lightly, but I always appreciated Hawking's zest for life.

And of course, no one can forget Hawking's crucial contributions to culture-by way of his breakout appearances on The Simpsons and Star Trek, and of course, at UC Berkeley.

Fellow actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who also played the physicist in a 2004 BBC TV film, remembered his "wickedly amusing sense of humour".

When David Gilmour saw a TV ad in the 1990's featuring Hawking he made a decision to use samples from of it on "Keep Talking" from 1994's The Division Bell and again on "Talkin Hawkin" found on 2014's The Endless River.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also paid tribute to the physicist - who was a Labour supporter - and said he "inspired the world with his determination to explain the mysteries of the cosmos" and "showed breathtaking courage to overcome life's adversities". "Work gives you meaning and goal, and life is empty without it", Hawking reminded them at the time.

The vice chancellor of the University of Cambridge is praising Stephen Hawking as an inspiration to millions. He was 76 years old.

He said: "What a privilege it was to know Stephen Hawking". The disease left him nearly completely paralyzed but because it progressed slowly than expected, he was able to have 3 children and complete his best-selling book "A Brief History of Time - a layman's guide to cosmology".

Hawking was also known for giving the world hope after being diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
