Xiaomi's Global MIUI 9 OS Expands To More Smartphones

The Redmi 5 has been selling in China since late previous year and its launch counterpart, the Redmi 5 Plus, was launched in India on Valentine's Day as the Redmi Note 5.

Xiaomi has also introduced some launch offers with the Redmi 5.

After updating the Redmi Note line-up, Xiaomi is stepping up the game in the more affordable Redmi series.

In terms of the design, the new Redmi 5 phones flaunt rounded corners and abandon off-screen capacitive buttons to accommodate the new near bezel-less screens.

The Redmi 5 Plus will sell for MXN4,599 (~$247) and will come with an ultra-slim case. Xiaomi Redmi 5 is available starting next week in blue, pink, gold, black, and the lake blue color. It sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 282ppi pixel density, 450-nit peak brightness, 72 percent NTSC colour gamut, and an eye protection mode. It is powered by 1.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 450 14nm processor with Adreno 506 GPU. It is equipped with two sheets of pyrolytic sheet that reduces the temperature of device by 2 degrees.

The Redmi 5, in typical Xiaomi fashion, comes with a sleek metal body, powerful and power-efficient processor with gobs of RAM and storage, capable cameras, and a big battery. Its 32 GB and 64 GB variants respectively features 3 GB of RAM and 4 GB of RAM. It supports continuous video playback for up to 10 hours.

It has 12 megapixels rear camera with LED Flash, f/2.2 aperture and PDAF. The handset is capable of snapping impressive shots in low-light conditions. Apart from the smaller form factor and single LED flash on the rear, the Redmi 5 looks exactly similar to the recently launched Redmi Note 5.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system.

Xiaomi's chose to slap a Rs 7999 price tag on the entry-level 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM variant.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is launching as an Amazon exclusive device, meaning it will only be available for purchase from the Amazon.in website in India. It will be available across Mi.com and Mi Home stores.

Reliance Jio is providing an instant cashback of Rs. 2,200 for the customers of Redmi 5 along with 100 GB of data.
