Liverpool great Jamie Carragher spits at 14-year-old Manchester United fangirl

Jamie Carragher

Thoughts on the Carragher incident?

There was an exchange of words in which the girl was asking Carragher about the game and winding him up about United's victory.

Carragher, one of Britain's best-known football pundits, has been suspended by Sky after footage emerged of him spitting through his vehicle window at a 14-year-old girl who was goading him about Liverpool's 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.

Jamie Carragher has not offered his resignation but admits his future as a broadcaster with Sky is not in his hands.

Carragher, who won two FA Cups and the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool, was stood down from reporting duties on Sky Sports' coverage of Monday evening's game between Stoke and Manchester City as a result of the incident.

In a video of the incident, the teenager's father repeatedly mentioned Saturday's score - Liverpool lost 2-1 - before Carragher spat.

He apologised but Sky said it "takes this matter extremely seriously and strongly condemns Jamie's actions". But we are all people.

Carragher has apologised to the family involved and to everyone else on Sky Sports news but it wasn't enough to stop him getting suspended.

The fan's 14-year-old daughter, sitting in the passenger seat of the auto, can be heard begging her father to stop the taunts, which he filmed on his mobile phone. Again, all I can do right now is apologise as much as possible.

As he arrived in London for talks with Sky Sports bosses on Monday morning, the former Liverpool defender said: "I wish she wasn't involved". "I was a role model, people looked up to me".

Meanwhile, former football hardman Vinnie Jones branded Carragher "absolute filth" and is leading calls for him to lose his pundit job. "No excuses he's made a big mistake", stated Neville in a tweet. Slamming him for his disgusting actions, English football legend Vinnie Jones ripped Carragher apart and asked him to step down from his job as a TV presenter. We would like to hear him about it and hear what happened.

He's now been suspended by Sky Sports, who will review the 40-year-old's position as a pundit over the coming weeks. It comes as The Walt Disney Co. tries to buy Fox for $52.4 billion on the assumption that Fox would buy out the rest of Sky.
