US Secretary of State calls off Kenya events over illness

China to US Don’t blame us for Africa’s accumulated debt

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has canceled a day of events in Kenya due to illness.

He is feeling unwell after long days working on major issues such as North Korea, said Steve Goldstein, the undersecretary of state.

Even though the secretary's illness was not clarified by officials alongside him, it is believed that his condition is not critical. He will become the first sitting US president to ever meet with a North Korean leader, although the White House says North Korea has to take "concrete" steps on denuclearization in order to ensure the meeting happens.

A few hours later, he traveled to Djibouti and then went on to Nairobi, where he went straight into evening meetings with President Uhuru Kenyatta and other top officials.

Tillerson's schedule on Saturday included an event for President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program, a wreath-laying ceremony at the August 7th Memorial Park and a meeting with American diplomats serving at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.

Trump stunned the world by accepting an invitation to meet Kim before the end of May.

The audacious diplomatic gambit, which was taken before consulting key confidantes including Tillerson - who was in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at the time - left aides scrambling to catch up.
