Several teams reportedly show interest in Richard Sherman, but not Patriots

Raiders Baby Reggie awakens solicits CB Richard Sherman's services

Richard Sherman hasn't been a free agent for 24 hours, but already he has a long list of suitors, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cornerback Richard Sherman, after dining Friday night with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, will meet further with team officials Saturday as he looks for a new team, according to multiple reports.

Let's ignore the dislike many Niners fans probably have for Sherman for a moment and explore the other question.

Now, there appears to be a real chance the 49ers are luring in Sherman after the Seattle Seahawks released him on Friday.

Sherman turns 30 on March 30.

Sherman hasn't attracted much of a trade market because teams know he is likely to be released, he has an $11 million salary entering the final year of his contract and is recovering from a season-ending Achilles tendon injury suffered in November.

Bringing in a player of Sherman's stature would send a strong message that the Panthers want to make another Super Bowl in the final season for Davis and center Ryan Kalil, both of whom have said they will retire after 2018. Sherman expects to be ready for the regular season but could be limit in August for training camp and parts of the preseason.

The 49ers are in need of cornerbacks and are expected to land a veteran in the coming week whether it is Sherman or someone else. It's hard to say at this point what the Seahawks team will look like next year, though it's worth pointing out that Seattle still has Russell Wilson, and a franchise quarterback is a great starting point for any National Football League team looking to rebuild.

San Francisco started the offseason with a $137.5 million pact with impending free agent Jimmy Garoppolo. But some players, including former Panthers defenders Jon Beason and Charles Godfrey, needed two seasons before they returned to their pre-Achilles surgery form.
