Rand Paul Attacker Pleads Guilty To Felony Assault Charge

Kentucky man pleads guilty to assaulting US Sen. Rand Paul

Paul - who was mowing the lawn at his Bowling Green home at the time of the attack - sustained six broken ribs and later suffered fluid buildup around his lungs. Media reports say Rene Boucher pleaded guilty Friday to a federal charge of assaulting a member of Congress resulting in personal injury.

Paul (R), a former presidential candidate, was attacked November 3 while mowing his lawn at his home.

After the November 3 attack, Kelly Paul, the senator's wife, made it clear that her husband was attacked by their neighbor and that there was no prior altercation between the two. According to the plea deal, which was discussed in January, Boucher said he "had enough" after seeing the senator stacking more brush on a brush pile. Prosecutors are supposedly looking for a 21-month jail sentence for Boucher, however the energize conveys to 10 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.

Boucher's attorney, Matthew Baker told WDRB that he will ask for leniency, when Boucher is sentenced on June 15, 2018.

Boucher initially pleaded not guilty and Baker was keen for his client to avoid a federal charge. He developed pneumonia when he returned to Kentucky.

"He and his neighbour have had a long-standing disagreement, and it just finally boiled over over this yard issue", the attorney said in a phone interview.

Paul has said he's recovering well from the attack.

Boucher has explained that the attack was not politically motivated, but was merely over a property dispute.
