Xiaomi expected to launch Redmi 5 on March 14; features, availability, pricing

W.r.t. the pricing- As Redmi 5 is successor of Redmi 4, it will be a budget smartphone priced at around Rs. 7999 just lower than price of Redmi Note 5 at Rs. 9,999.

Xiaomi has launched the latest smartphones in the flagship and mid-range lineup from the company year after year from the past couple of years and the latest smartphones launched by the company were the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro which were announced last month by Xiaomi in India.

To recap, the Redmi 5 arrived alongside the Redmi 5 Plus in December 2017.

Xiaomi has teased its upcoming budget smartphone for the Indian market via its social media channel.

In China, the phone was launched in three variants.

The device comes with a 5.7-inch screen with an HD+ resolution.

Under the hood, the device will come powered by the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor with custom Kryo 260 cores. On the other hand, the bigger Mi TV 4 has a faster 1.8GHz quad-core processor with Mali-T830 MP2 graphics and 2GB of RAM.

The Plus model is also available in two variants - 3GB RAM + 32GB built-in storage and 4GB RAM + 32GB built-in storage which are priced at 999 Yuan (approximately Rs 9,500) and 1299 Yuan (approximately Rs 12,700) respectively. Note that on the Xiaomi phones, you have to use the SIM2 hybrid slot for memory whereas the Galaxy J7 has a dedicated memory slot. The California and Mumbai-based company has sent invites for the launch event in Bengaluru on Tuesday, and the move appears to be aimed at taking on Xiaomi's recent foray into the Indian television market with cost-effective models. From the front, the Redmi Note 5 (a.k.a Redmi Note 5 Pro) looks exactly similar to the Redmi 5 Plus. Based on its size and camera bump, it seems like the device is the Redmi 5. The Samsung Galaxy J7 sports a 13MP f/1.9 camera on the back. To give a perspective, Xiaomi Redmi 5 was launched alongside the Redmi 5 Plus in China in December past year. Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5 run the company's MIUI 9 software.

Of the three, the Redmi Note 5 is easily the best option.
