Jesse Randal Davidson, 53, was arrested on Wednesday after he barricaded himself inside a classroom at Dalton High School and fired a handgun through the window.

A north Georgia high school teacher was arrested on Wednesday after he barricaded himself in a classroom and fired a shot from his handgun out of a window, police said. He was also a play-by-play announcer for the high school football team.

He has been charged with aggravated assault, carrying weapon on school grounds, terroristic threats, reckless conduct, possession of gun during commission of a crime, and disrupting public school.

No students were in the classroom when the incident occurred, but a student hurt their ankle as the school was being evacuated, according to reports.

Asst. Chief Cliff Cason of the Dalton Police Department said authorities are now aware of one shot going off and that it was sacked through the classroom window and went outside the building.

A teacher is in custody in Georgia after allegedly firing at least one shot inside a high school classroom.

"I didn't expect this", she said, describing Davidson as a nice, amusing teacher who "cares about your grade and doesn't want you to fail".

"I think that maybe we should have more officers in the school", she told Cuomo.

Davidson told detectives that two friends killed a woman on his behalf because he had an online affair with her.

But when the staff began searching for him a year ago, the officer assigned to the high school contacted Hamilton Medical Center due to the teacher's "history of medical problems", he wrote in his report. "We were all just terrified and running for what we thought was our lives", she said.

Now students at Dalton High School are joining the chorus of those asking just how, exactly, will arming teachers will make schools safer for students.

Classes were cancelled at the high school on Thursday.

According to a 2016 incident report obtained by FOX 5 News, police described him as possibly being "delusional".

Davidson also said, "Don't come in here, I have a gun". They alerted the principal, who tried to get in using a key but couldn't after the teacher forced it shut, reported local paper the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Several students said on social media they were outraged that some on Twitter questioned whether the incident was staged.

About 30 to 45 minutes after the police arrived at the scene, Davidson surrendered, according to Dalton Police Spokesman Bruce Frazier.

Police said the gunshot didn't injure anyone but the school was placed on a code red lockdown.

"Anyone who knows him can tell you he's no danger", Tania Ramirez, a 10th grade student said. The school will resume classes on Friday. "He really wanted the students to understand the concept", said 18-year-old senior Rowdy Zeisig.
