Volvo debuts the sleek and redesigned 2019 V60 wagon

The new T6 Twin Engine all-wheel drive petrol plug-in hybrid petrol generates a combined 340hp while the T8 Twin Engine AWD version delivers a meatier 390hp

The official details of the new Volvo V60 have been released.

The new vehicle shares Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform with the award-winning new XC60 and three flagship 90 series cars, which have led the Swedish company's record-breaking global sales performance in recent years. Still, if you ever saw a V90 with the R-Design package in the wild, the V60 won't cause a heart attack. As a result, the V60 offers improved interior and luggage space. Available with petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power, the V60 will cost £31,810 when it arrives in September and be one of the first Volvo cars to be available on a deposit-free subscription service, with a flat fee covering finance, insurance and servicing costs. A more detailed pricing structure will be announced soon. Both hybrid powertrains have a claimed 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds, while the T5 has a 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds. Both are petrol-electric plug-in hybrid models with all-wheel drive, with the T6 model making 335bhp and the T8 making 385bhp.

As Volvo has built a reputation for building some of the safest cars in the world, it has fitted the V60 with City Safety with Autobrake - which uses autonomous emergency braking and hazard detection systems - and Pilot Assist, which can reduce driver fatigue as the auto can perform all major driving functions by itself at speeds up to 80mph on well-marked roads. Also available is the company's Pilot Assist system, which provides the driver with steering, acceleration, and braking assistance for highway driving.

Other systems include Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and the optional Cross Traffic Alert. The new V60's wheelbase stretches 113 inches, almost four inches longer than the model it replaces.

The vehicle will also feature the company's Sensus infotainment system, which is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G, and keeps drivers connected at all times. It also benefits from the latest autobraking technology. "The new V60 honors that tradition, but also takes it much further".

Volvo is renowned for its supreme safety tech, so it comes as no surprise that the V60 is equipped with all manner of hi-tech driver assists.
