Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu Retires As Global Ambassador of Scandal-Hit Oxfam

Roland van Hauwermeiren was investigated for sexual misconduct in 2004 in Liberia

In his first interview since being accused of hosting sex parties with prostitutes while working in the country in the aftermath of the devastating natural disaster, Roland van Hauwermeiren claimed many would be "embarrassed" when he finally told his version of events.

"But you should know that a lot of people, including in the global media, will blush with shame when they hear my version of the facts", he told De Standaard. There are things that are described correctly. But I also read a lot of lies and exaggerations. Parties every week? Chic villas?

Mark Goldring, Oxfam's chief executive, denied the allegations that the charity covered up any information unearthed in internal investigations.

As The Mirror reports, speaking at the VO5 NME Awards, he told the Press Association: "We've raised millions through the years with Oxfam - six million quid and everyone's said what a wonderful charity they are and we still support them".

"It is now clear that these allegations-involving the use of prostitutes and which related to behavior of both the country director and members of his team in Chad-were raised before he moved to Haiti", said Oxfam Great Britain's deputy chief executive, Penny Lawrence, in a February 12 statement announcing her resignation.

He said the Burundi man was reported to police, arrested and suspended as a volunteer, and the local charity partner co-operated with the police investigation and provided counselling and legal advice to the girl's family.

"In over 50 years we have had two cases reported to us relating to sexual misconduct and both were dealt with decisively".

"I feel deeply, deeply hurt". "What I see appearing everywhere is hard to bear".

England and Wales's charity regulator is now investigating Oxfam's safeguarding procedures after it said the charity hadn't disclosed the full details of an internal inquiry into sex abuse allegations by its aid staff in Haiti.

David Adams, who lived and worked in Haiti for years as U.S. Agency for International Development Haiti Mission Director, told CNA that the majority of humanitarian aid workers in Haiti did not abuse their power in such an appalling way.

The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (Sciaf) said one case involved a junior staff member for a joint organisation with other United Kingdom and Irish Catholic charities in Ethiopia, and the other a volunteer in Burundi.

The charity is under threat of losing its British government funding over sexual misconduct accusations in Haiti and Chad.

"As an organisation, we are ashamed by the actions of some of our former members of staff and are more committed now than ever to learn from our mistakes and ensure we uphold the highest levels of safeguarding standards in our work around the world".
