Tinder Is Reportedly Set To Introduce 'Women Talk First' Option

Tinder Will Now Let Women Initiate Conversations First

One of the most common slams of the Tinder experience is being bombarded with gross messages from guys who take a match as the flawless opportunity to ask women all kinds of unusual sexual questions.

For the time being the feature seems to only apply to heterosexual users (in the male-female interactions) and there is no word on wider application.

The dating app will launch a setting that makes it possible for women to only interact with the men they message first.

According to a report from MarketWatch, Tinder plans to deal with the problem by following in the footsteps of Bumble; launching a feature that will let women decide who gets to initiate the conversation.

Like Bumble, a rival dating app which only allows women to initiative conversation, Tinder will introduce this function as optional. This means that men can still make the first move on the dating app, which has seen more than 20-billion matches since its inception.

In spite of clear similarities to Bumble's core feature, Ms Ginsberg said that Tinder's ladies-first option is "not a reaction to any competitor". She added "Giving people the choice versus telling people how to engage is the big difference". Stay tuned for much more from Tinder coming soon.

Tinder are expected to make user interface changes to ensure users know who is accepting conversations, versus who will not.

Not all women agree that being able to start the conversation keeps them safe from abusive comments; it often feels more like a gimmick, than any sort of protection.

"As a woman CEO running a company that touches millions of women around the world, it's a big priority for me and an area that I'm particularly passionate about", said Ginsberg during an earnings call last week.

Tinder's move to offer a Bumble-like option could have an impact on the so-called female-friendly dating app rival.
