American Luger Emily Sweeney Has Terrifying Crash

Emily Sweeney Is OK After That Scary Olympic Luge Crash

The 2018 Winter Olympics have seen some incredible highs for USA athletes (see Chloe Kim's gold medal halfpipe, Mirai Nagasu's historic triple axel, and Adam Rippon's gorgeous Coldplay routine), but American Emily Sweeney's terrifying luge crash on her final run today gave her teammates, family, and fans a scare.

The American lost control midway through her run and proceeded to bounce off the walls in terrifying fashion.

Sweeney eventually came off her sled, and trainers rushed onto the scene.

Sweeney collided with the wall and delayed the competition, but walked away on her own power.

Sweeney was visibly hurting after the crash.

You can check out the crash in the video below. She suffered no broken bones but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Emily Sweeney's Olympic debut ended with a frightening crash Tuesday in PyeongChang, South Korea.

"I'm very sore, and pretty stiff", Sweeney added.

"I'm going to go get an X-ray on my back after this, but I wanted to have the last word".

The 24-year-old, who is competing in her first Olympics, was initially diagnosed with bumps and bruises. She just missed out on a spot in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

She was in a curve when she bounced around the track before crashing. "I don't know. We'll see", she said.

Germany's Natalie Geisenberger took home the gold medal once the competition resume, while American Erin Hamlin finished sixth.
