Trump signs deal to end brief government shutdown, increase USA spending

While noting he did have concerns about the amount of deficit spending in the bill, Kirshnamoorthi said he probably would've voted "yes" if Ryan had offered a more specific commitment for a DACA vote. "Sadly, we needed some Dem votes for passage", he tweeted.

Even without Pelosi, the House could pass the budget bill because it includes more money for disaster relief, infrastructure and healthcare, which many Democrats favour.

Ryan said the bill also includes funds to fight opioids, recover from hurricanes and wildfires, and extend health care programs.

The House is set to vote on the package after Senate's approval, although its fate remains uncertain in the House.

But the delay to the vote that pushed it past midnight put the government in a brief shutdown while congressional proceedings continued into the early morning. Sen.

On Friday Paul slammed the new government spending bill, saying it fails to address the deficit and raises the debt ceiling at the same time.

The government partially shut down for three days last month - midnight EST on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 to Monday evening on Jan. 22, 2018 after lawmakers could not come to terms on a short-term spending deal. The two-year pact, which also continues the government's authority to borrow money, postpones any possible federal default or likely shutdowns until after the November elections.

Senate GOP leaders, however, were clearly irked by the debacle.

USA stocks opened sharply higher early on Friday morning even as several indexes remained on course for a steep weekly loss.

In January, the USA government faced a three-day shutdown after the two parties could not come to an agreement on immigration issues.

The Senate has approved a massive budget deal in the early hours of Friday, February 9 to avoid a long-term government shutdown.

The White House kept its distance from the quarreling on Capitol Hill.

It also extends the United States government's borrowing authority until March 2019, sparing Washington politicians hard votes on debt and deficits until after mid-term congressional elections in November.

Most Democrats opposed the measure, following the lead of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who tried and failed to use the moment to secure a promise for a separate vote on immigration. We must pass this budget agreement first, though, so that we can get onto that.

Once known as the party of fiscal conservatives, the Republicans and Trump are now quickly expanding the us budget deficit and its $20 trillion national debt.

"I ran for office because I was very critical of President Obama's trillion-dollar deficits", the Kentucky senator said.

"You haven't convinced 60 or 52 senators that your idea is good enough to support", Tillis said. Trump said in September he would end by March 5 former Democratic President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme that protects the Dreamers from deportation.

He says senators will likely pass the bill, adding, "They'll be exhausted and ornery, but it's their own fault".

But the deficit spending in the bill would add more red ink to Washington's balance sheet and further underscore a shift in Republican thinking that Paul was trying to draw attention to.

"My commitment to working together on an immigration [measure] we can make law is a honest commitment", Ryan said on the floor before the vote.
