Russian plane crash: More than 70 feared dead after debris found

The Antonov-148 of Saratov Airlines with 65 passengers and a crew of six was en route from Domodedovo Airport in Moscow to Orsk of the Orenburg Region in western Russian Federation.

A Russian An-148 aircraft operated by Saratov Airlines went missing from the radar shortly after take-off from the Domodedovo worldwide airport.

All 65 passengers were from Orenburg, the Russian region to which the plane was flying, a spokesman for the regional governor told Interfax news agency.

A Reuters report quoted by NDTV says that the debris of the aircraft has been found and that there are no survivors. "It's not clear at this stage whether weather was factor in this crash".

Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said Sunday afternoon that "judging by everything, no one has survived this crash".

The plane crashed about 50 miles east of Moscow, Russia shortly after taking off from Moscow Domodedovo Airport.

A rescue team has been sent to the scene.

Prosecutors opened an investigation into Saratov Airlines following the crash.

Investigators said they were looking into all possibilities for the incident. Saratov Airlines has been controlled by entrepreneur Arkady Evstafiev since Aeroflot PJSC sold its stake in the carrier in 2011, according to Kommersant daily.

Andrei Odintsov, the mayor of the city of Orsk, told Russian state television that six psychologists and four ambulances with medics were working with the relatives in the small airport.

Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that the plane crashed on Sunday a few minutes after taking off.

The aircraft was heading for Orsk, a city close to the Russia-Kazakhstan border.

Eyewitnesses told Russian media that the jet was on fire as it went down.
