Former President Bush says Russian Federation interfered with vote in the US

George W. Bush

Bush stated in a speech at a conference for the US-based think tank Milken Institute in Abu Dhabi that there is pretty clear evidence Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 presidential election, the USA Today reported.

"Whether they affected the outcome is another question", Bush told a Milken Institute conference in Abu Dhabi.

While Bush did not mention Donald Trump's name, his comments are a contradiction to President Trump's denial of Russian Federation affecting the outcome of the election.

Mr. Bush said that "it's problematic that a foreign nation is involved in our election system".

President Donald Trump has repeatedly dismissed intelligence reports of Russian meddling in the election as fake news, a hoax and made-up.

Bush also took a swipe at Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he referred to as "zero sum", and said he "has a chip on his shoulder".

In the talk, Bush also criticized the Trump administration's decision to scrap protection for "dreamers", young illegal immigrants brought to the U.S.as children granted protection from deportation, citing that "America's their home".

"The reason he does is because of the demise of the Soviet Union troubles him", he said.

Pivoting to the topic of immigration, Bush called for reform ― another possible critique of Trump. "Therefore, much of his moves [are] to regain Soviet hegemony", he said.

"He's resentful", Bush said of Putin.

"There are people willing to do jobs Americans won't do". "They've got to get it fixed".

"Americans don't want to pick cotton at 105 degrees, but there are people who want to put food on their family's tables and are willing to do that", he said, according to The Associated Press.

"We ought to be able to say thank you, and to welcome them". Milken pleaded guilty to securities-law violations in 1990 and served 22 months in prison.
