Srinagar hospital attack: Pakistani terrorist snatches gun from police, escapes after killing 2 cops

Two policemen were killed on February 6 after militants attacked a government-run hospital in Srinagar that allowed LeT terrorist Naveed Jat to escape. Giving details, the Minister said a Pakistani militant managed to escape from the Police custody after militants attack a Police party in SMHS hospital Srinagar.

"Naveed, a resident of Multan in Pakistan, had joined Pakistan based terror outfit LeT in 2011 and was active in the Valley for four years before he was arrested in Kulgam district in 2014". The terrorist fired shots when the policemen were escorting a Pakistani prisoner Naveed. "Naveed himself snatched the weapon of one of the policeman and opened fire", said a police official.

J&K Director General of Police S.P. Vaid told The Hindu that recently six Pakistani prisoners were ordered to be moved from Srinagar Central Jail to Jammu but the accused, Mohammed Naveed Jhutt alias Abu Hunzala, got a stay order from a city court in December a year ago.

The area has been cordoned off and searches are on to track down the ultras, police said. As they were advancing towards hospital ward, two militants were already present near the stairs who abruptly fired on the cops.

The police sources said that during the preliminary investigation it was learned that Naveed himself snatched Carbon rifle from a policeman and opened fire.

The incident took place when he was being escorted by police officers for check up at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital in Srinagar.

Police said a nursing orderly of Central Jail Srinagar was also accompanying the six prisoners with medical records.

A Lashkar-e-Taiba militant escaped on Tuesday from a hospital in Srinagar where he was taken for a medical check-up.

The policemen killed on Tuesday were identified as constables Mushtaq Ahmad and Babar Ahmad. Also, one of the top terrorists undergoing life imprisonment, is often visited by people who consider him a "godman" and receive "taveez" (amulets) from him, sources said. They opened fire, pumping bullets in to the chest and abdomen of head constable Mustaq Ahmad and constable Babar Ahmad.

One cop died while another was left injured in the incident, said a senior police official.
