Karni Sena issues fresh threat, says won't allow release of 'Padmavat'

Deepika's 'Padmavati' officially gets renamed as 'Padmaavat'!

This has already been communicated by CBFC and a U/A certificate has been given to the film.

The Karni Sena, a Rajput outfit, has been persistent in threatening the makers of "Padmavat" of dire consequences if it is released on 25 January. Lokendra Singh Kalvi, Karni Sena chief, had alleged that the CBFC cleared Padmaavat with a U/A certification and a few minor cuts despite opposition from the advisory panel they appointed to review the film's historical accuracy. The other big modification was to change the incorrect or misleading references to historical places. The Karni Sena has also demanded the resignation of Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of CBFC.

Padmavat, which was set to release on December 1st, will be released on January 25th.

CBFC, in consultation with a special advisory panel, saw the movie last month and chose to grant the film a U/A certificate with five modifications, including title change and two disclaimers.

This Bollywood period drama is based on the epic 16th-century poem "Padmavat" by Malik Mohammed Jaisi.

Opposing the CBFCs decision to clear the film, a Karni Sena leader said, "Merely changing the name of the film isnt enough". The Ghoomar song was also asked to be changed to fit the character in it.

Some of the key modifications suggested include those pertaining to disclaimers, pertinently adding one regarding not glorifying the practice of Sati.

The person added on saying, "Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures, as producers, have accepted and have made all the above changes". "From the past one and a half year, we have been talking peacefully but now it is time to take up the path of aggression", said Sukhdev. The CBFC's process is complete and any further news about cuts etc is absolutely untrue."Padmaavat stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini of Chittor, who committed Jauhar(self-immolation) after Alauddin Khilji invaded her fort. Shahid plays Rawal Ratan Singh, Deepika's husband".
