With one withering comment, Natalie Portman made a big statement

Seth Meyers hosts the 75th Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills California

While presenting the nominees and victor alongside director Ron Howard, Portman notes, quite pointedly, that the nominees were all male.

Most of the female celebrities who attended the event at the Beverly Hilton wore black to show support for Time's Up, an initiative that seeks to promote equality, wage parity and inclusion and also has established a legal defense fund for victims of sexual assault.

Portman wasn't even nominated, but somehow she walked away with all the awards. Her onstage statements included a jab at the continued wins for men saying, "backstage I heard they said I was the only woman...to get the best director award, and you know, that was 1984: That was 34 years ago".

In accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at tonight's Golden Globes, Oprah Winfrey delivered a powerful and poignant speech in which she advocated on behalf of women, people of color, the impoverished, journalism, truth, and human decency.

Guillermo del Toro won the category for "The Shape of Water". Two of the founders and major supporters of the Time's Up movement, Natalie Portman and America Ferrera, arrived together at Sunday night's award show and walked the carpet in solidarity.

Women make up just 7% of the directors who helm the top 250 films, according to the San Diego State's Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film.

If she had received a nomination, however, Gerwig wouldn't have been the first woman to do so. "There's so many films out there that are so good, directed by women".

Natalie Portman, presenting the director prize, did not let Greta Gerwig's snub go unnoticed.
