County braces for possible snow, freezing rain

Warming trend underway but first a wintry mix to get through

Frigid temperatures in north Georgia aren't showing any signs of letting up as forecasters are predicting freezing rain in Dawson County beginning Sunday night into Monday.

The National Weather Service said blowing snow will be the biggest problem as winds gusting as high as 45 miles per hour will whip already fallen snow around the ground and over roadways.

The wedge is formed when weather patterns from the west and northeast meet over north Georgia, often causing severe weather for the area. Widespread haze. Sunny, with a high near 77.

Saturday night: A 20 percent chance of showers.

Wednesday is forecast to be mostly sunny, with a high near 46.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Mid-Columbia until 4 p.m. Friday.

Wednesday's high in Madison was 12, 15 degrees below normal and 45 degrees below the record high of 57 for January 3, set in 1874.

Friday: Rain. High near 53.

Sunday night, the low will be around 26 with mostly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Another round of arctic air is set to move into Southside Virginia by Thursday, bringing gusty winds and more bitter cold. New snow and sleet accumulations of less than half-an-inch is possible.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around -12.

The weather forecast for New Canaan as of 4 p.m. Wednesday calls for up to nine inches of snow tonight and tomorrow with wind gusts up to 41 miles per hour.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44.

Monday: Sunny with a high near 52. Both forecasts are close to record lows of 5 degrees and 3 degrees for January 6 and 7, respectively.
