The victim told FBI agents on Wednesday that she awoke in her window seat that morning to discover a fellow passenger, identified as 34-year-old Prabhu Ramamoorthy, shoving his fingers inside her trousers 'and vigorously moving them, ' according to a federal criminal complaint.
The woman in her complaint stated that she woke from a small nap to find her trousers open with the man's hand inside and her shirt unbuttoned.
The victim immediately reported the attack to flight attendants, who later told federal agents that she was "visibly upset and was crying".
The 22-year-old women is alleging she was awoken by the man attempting to shove his fingers into her vagina. Ramamoorthy was arrested upon landing at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
Prabhu Ramamoorthy showed up Wednesday in U.S. Region Court in Detroit after the Spirit Airlines flight touched base at Metro Airport.
Federal prosecutor Amanda Jawad said Ramamoorthy stopped his act as soon as the victim woke up. The female traveler then noticed that both her shirt and trousers had been undone. Jill Leslie Price of the Federal Defender Office, who showed up with Ramamoorthy, said he was eager to have his nation of origin told of the charge.
The woman revealed she nodded off and woke up "to a turn in her jeans and saw that her jeans and shirt were unfastened", as per the government grumbling.
Prabhu also apparently gave conflicting testimonies about what happened with the victim.
His wife told officials a similar story, and said that they had called the flight attendants to try to change seats. He said Ramamoorthy had worked as a project manager at a technology group for about two and a half years. "There have been no allegations from anywhere that his behaviour has ever been inappropriate prior to this incident", O'Neill said.
"I have a hard time with some of these allegations but that's what a trial is for", O'Neill said.
