Storm Eleanor to batter East Devon - weather warning in place

Low pressure will drag in storm force winds from the Atlantic

The storm is threatening Ireland and the west of the United Kingdom with winds of up to 90mph, putting lives at risk, the Met Office has said.

There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown on to sea fronts, roads and coastal properties, along western and southern coasts.

Flying debris could lead to injuries or danger to life, while some damage to buildings is likely, it has said.

Public transport may be disrupted or cancelled and some bridges are likely to be closed.

As well as high winds there's also heavy rain too.

Tuesday night will continue windy with strong southwest to west winds, reaching gale force along western coasts.

In Cumbria the entirety of the county's coastline has been issued with an Environment Agency flood warning.

"We are monitoring the situation and have issued flood alert and warning in coastal areas".

"Any flooding is expected to coincide with periods of high tide".

"If you have to travel, check your route before setting off and please do not walk or drive through flood water - just 30cm can move a vehicle".

The Environment Agency has warned that strong winds and high tides could bring coastal flooding until Thursday.

Tidal spray and onshore flooding may occur to roads and some properties along the coast may be affected.
