Have heard IMA, health minister Nadda tells Rajya Sabha as doctors strike

The National President of Indian Medical Association said that the medical students along with three lakh doctors will go on hunger strike from all over the country on 2nd January to protest against the National Commission Bill. Government doctors have chose to boycott their one-hour OP duty as a mark of protest against the bill. The doctors are opposing this new NMC bill, said that the passing of this bill will be the black day in the medical history.

The IMA has called the Bill "anti-people and anti-patient".

At the same time, medial students are now on an indefinite dharna in front of Raj Bhavan demanding the withdrawal of the bill approved by the Union cabinet. Dr KK Aggarwal, former president of the IMA, said they have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the health minister, urging them to redraft the bill and modify some provisions to protect the interest of medical practitioners. "Moreover the new norms will allow any foreign doctor to practice in India without any restriction as it does away with the screening test for foreign medical graduates", he said.

"Unscientific mixing of systems and empowering of other practitioners through bridge courses will only pave the way for substandard doctors and substandard medical practice".

The Indian Medical Association has called for suspending routine services on Tuesday to protest against a bill that seeks to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body.

"NMC is an anti-poor bill with pro-private management clauses". Also, with the present move all state medical councils will be removed and there will be representation for five states in NMC on a rotation basis.

IMA has four demands - One elected representative in NMC from the Registered Medical Graduates of every state and no separate registration for AYUSH.
