Eagles' Nick Foles (rest) done for the day after one quarter

Despite locking up the NFC's No. 1 seed six days earlier, the Philadelphia Eagles chose to play quarterback Nick Foles in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Cowboys, but he turned in an uneven performance.

It is hard to be too critical of the Eagles offense when so many key players were given the day off or taken out early to prepare for the playoffs.

Second-year pro Nate Sudfeld replaced Foles and was 19 of 23 for 134 yards in his first career game.

Third-string quarterback Nate Sudfeld, a 6-foot-6, sixth-round pick by Washington past year who had never taken an National Football League snap, entered for the fifth series and looked impressive in every aspect; strong arm, good reads, nice footwork and solid mechanics.

Their season isn't over yet, and all they need is for this group to string together three good games in a row to take home the ultimate prize.

The last time Beasley caught a touchdown pass was during a win over the Kansas City Chiefs back on November 5, when he snared two balls in the end zone.

The offense's sluggish play might frustrate fans who clamored for a better performance after the team put up a season-low 216 yards in a win over the Raiders on Christmas.

The Eagles finish the regular season at 13-3 - one win shy of a franchise record. Punter Donnie Jones had a busy afternoon with seven punts averaging 42.7 yards per punt.

A memorable chapter of Eagles vs. Cowboys this was not. In order to make it where they want to go, Foles will have to look more like he did against the Giants than in the two weeks since. The Eagles drove to the Cowboys 39 before Torrey Smith dropped a pass on third-and-7.

Five of Philadelphia's defensive starters — LB Nigel Bradham, DE Brandon Graham, DT Tim Jernigan, S Rodney McLeod, CB Jalen Mills — and one regular — DE Derek Barnett — were inactive. They finally gave up a score in the beginning of the fourth quarter, but it's hard to be mad at them given how they held up over the course of the game.

Key plays •Dak Prescott hit Brice Butler for a 20-yard touchdown pass to break the scoreless tie in the fourth quarter. Sudfeld then ran 22 yards on another third down and the crowd roared. That was the Eagles' best chance to score in the first half. Foles was hurried and threw an incomplete pass on fourth down. Then Donnie Jones drilled a ideal punt that went out inside the Cowboys' 1-yard line.

Up next It's playoff time at the Linc in two weeks.
