Police Say Pakistan-Based Militant Group's Leader Killed In Indian-Administered Kashmir

Terrorist killed by security forces in J&K's Pulwama

According to these sources, Tantray provided logistical support to JeM militants who stormed the District Police Lines in Pulwama in August.

50 Rashtriya Rifles, J&K Police and 110 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been carried out this operation. "In the ensuing encounter, Tantray was killed whereas there was no information about the presence of the second militant", it said.

Two of his accomplices, believed to be foreign terrorists, managed to escape under the cover of darkness when the encounter broke out at Samboora village in Pulwama district in South Kashmir, they said, adding that the two would be tracked down soon. A complete shutdown was observed in Tral area on Tuesday, and Internet and railway services were suspended in South Kashmir.

A Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist was killed in the encounter by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday, reports said.

Army's 1 Sector deputy commander, Sanjeev Saroch, while speaking to reporters said Noor Trali's killing was "a major blow" to the JeM and "another major success" for the security forces. "One dead body of militant recovered so far, search for others going on", SP Vaid, a senior police official, said. It is not know how the other militants survived the operation.

Tantray was arrested in Delhi in 2003 and sentenced to life by a Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) court in 2011.

Defence spokesperson Rajesh Kalia told The Indian Express that Tantray was on the Army's "wanted list" also.

The four feet two inches tall terrorist commander, also known as Peer Baba and Chota Noora, Tantrey (47) was recruited as an overground worker by Jaish-e-Mohammad leader Ghazi Baba in late 90s as JeM felt that nobody would suspect him as a terrorist because of his height. After being lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail for some time, he was shifted to Srinagar.

Tantray was responsible for the militant attack on the Border Security Force's (BSF) camp near Srinagar airport in October, a police officer said. His funeral was attended by many, including some militants who offered a gun salute.
