Lorde cancels concert in Israel amid criticism

Lorde on stage at the Dunedin Town Hall

The invitation was extended two days after the singer announced the cancelation of the show due to pressure from anti-Israel groups and movements that boycott Israel.

Lorde has called off her concert in Israel next summer after appeals from pro-Palestinian activists.

In a statement to AFP, Naranjah said: "We forgive Lorde and wish her a successful tour in Russian Federation and the U.S.".

Lorde has canceled a scheduled tour date in Israel amid organized protests calling for artists to boycott playing shows in the country.

Lorde is refunding fans who had bought tickets and said she didn't make the right call in agreeing to the show.

In an official statement, the "Royals" singer said that after reading an "overwhelming" number of messages and letters as well as several discussions with various people, she has made a decision to cancel her show.

"The truth is that I was naive to think that an artist of her age can withstand the pressure involved in coming to Israel, and I take full responsibility and ask the forgiveness of fans, admirers, and other dreamers", he wrote on Facebook, according to CNN.

New Zealand pop star Ella Yelich-O'Connor, known by the stage name Lorde, was set to play in Tel Aviv as part of her Melodrama tour.

Lorde said that after having "lots of discussions" about the matter, "I'm not too proud to admit I didn't make the right call on this one".

"Lorde, I'm hoping you can be a "pure heroine" like the title of your first album", Miri Regev said in a statement obtained by The Guardian.

He added: "It's important to me that the end of the day we will thank her for considering us and giving us the opportunity in the first place, and also apologize to her, she doesn't deserve all the shit she's been through in the last week since the announcement".

Lorde said in a statement it was the right decision to cancel the show, Variety reported.

The campaign gained momentum from an open letter published on commentary website The Spinoff, which Lorde responded to on twitter.

"Noted! Been speaking w many people about this and considering all options".

Ms Moses said Lorde would perform in Russian Federation on her Melodrama World Tour, and despite that country's human rights abuses no one called on her to cancel that show or suggested she was a Putin supporter.
