Stunning SpaceX Rocket Launch as Seen From Around Southern California

Representational Image

The Twilight effect from a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Most people were unaware it was happening leading to plenty of questions and comments from posters.

The launch today was for client Iridium, delivering 10 satellites to low Earth orbit for its Iridium NEXT communications constellation.

Multiple local law enforcement agencies have confirmed the flash of light was from the rocket launch, which blasted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base along California's Central Coast. The satellites were deployed by 6:49 p.m.

While the aerospace manufacturer founded by Elon Musk had been live-tweeting the Falcon 9 take-off to the excitement of its almost five-and-a-half million followers, the majority of Californians were left in the dark regarding this pre-planned event (metaphorically speaking, of course), leaving them shocked at the eerie sight of bright lights flying overhead.

Iridium has acquired healthy signals from all 10 satellites, SpaceX reported via Twitter.

This mysterious bright light flashing across the sky in Southern California is what sparked all the talk of aliens.

"People were wondering if it had something to do with movies, or TV or a UFO", he said.

Musk tweeted that it was "definitely aliens" sharing a video of the launch with the caption "nuclear alien UFO from North Korea". The worst part of all this is that, after several media outlets published articles debunking the alleged alien sightings and highlighting the SpaceX launch, many people who saw the lights clung tightly to their extra-terrestrial fantasies. The array will also include the Aireon aircraft tracking and surveillance system.
