It Seems Like Julian Assange Deleted His Twitter

Wikileaks Julian Assange vault 7

People trying to access Assange's Twitter page Monday were directed to an "error message" page.

The controversial WikiLeaks founder's account mysteriously went dark early Christmas morning.

The official WikiLeaks Twitter account remained live throughout the ordeal and responded to the incident with a cryptic tweet of its own.

The WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's account has been deleted from Twitter for unknown reasons.

Twitter had no comment on the matter, save for directing us to check out the company's instructions for users that want to deactivate and reactivate their accounts, which notes that "account data (such as Tweets, followers, favorites, etc.) may take a few minutes to fully restore".

The account does not appear to have been suspended by Twitter, and the most recent cached version of his account suggests he had not tweeted since Friday.

A statement from WikiLeaks pointed out some "oddities" from the social media platform and the US Navy, but noted that apart from increased surveillance at the Ecuadorian embassy, the 46-year-old Australian was fine. Assange has been holed up at the Ecuadorean embassy in London since 2012, when he sought refuge there to avoid extradition to Sweden on rape charges, which were eventually dropped.

"It appears Julian Assange's wasn't suspended by twitter but was hacked and deleted", one Twitter user wrote, but no evidence was supplied to back the claim.

Assange is now living at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, which granted him political asylum in 2012.
