Civilization VI Now Available On IPad For $60

Sid Meier's Civilization VI Now Available for Apple's iPad

In a surprise move, Civilization VI, the current iteration of the wildly popular turn based strategy game published by 2K Games, is now available for iPad.

"Civilization 6" is now playable on the go, as the turn-based strategy game came out on the Apple Store on Thursday, Dec. 21. It is the base game only, without any downloadable content. Civilization 6's first expansion, Rise and Fall, is set to be released February 8, 2018, on Windows PC. Instead, it's more just us picking out the single game out of the week's releases that we think is the most noteworthy, surprising, interesting, or really any other hard to describe quality that makes it worth having if you were just going to pick up one. If you're an existing fan of the franchise with compatible hardware, I know you've already purchased this so I won't waste my breath. While those games were available on the iPhone in addition to the iPad, Civilization VI is not.

Most games for smartphones and tablets are created to be simpler than PC and console titles. You can download the game via the iTunes App Store. Graphics seem to have taken a small hit in quality in the jump from PC to iPad, but other than that, this should be a true-to-form release.

Civilization VI is the first in the Civilization series to be released for the iPad. That unlock is on sale in the App Store for $29.99 during the game's launch window, but the deal expires in two weeks, at 11:59 p.m. PT on January 4, 2018 - after which the unlock will jump to its regular price of $59.99. These include the removal of the animation in screens that show the leader of the civilization. Bringing over the DLC from the PC version as well as the upcoming Rise and Fall expansion is in the cards, however, Aspyr says it "cannot confirm timing or availability at this time". And then, if you want to buy it, it costs $60. Today, you can get the PC version for $30, and the deluxe version with additional content is just $10 more. Multiplayer is available, but only through LAN.
