Explosion in Christian Church in Pakistan: 5 Reportedly Killed, 16 Injured

Quetta is the provincial capital of Balochistan province.

The footage shows one of the terrorist jumping the outer wall of the church to enter and then opening the gate for the other.

At least 4 people were killed and 16 injured when two terrorists wearing suicide vests attacked a church in Quetta.

According to officials, the two suicide bombers were between the ages of 16 and 20.

Each attacker was carrying 15 kilograms of explosive plus grenades, said civil defence official Aslam Tareen.

Inspector General Balochistan Moazzam Ansari, speaking to the press, said that two suicide bombers attacked the church. These samples will be sent to Punjab Forensic Laboratory in Lahore.

"Suddenly a huge explosion occurred outside the hall that broke window panes", he told the newspaper.

Jah said the venue - Bethel Memorial Methodist Church - was on high alert as Christian places of worship were often targeted by Islamist extremists over Christmas.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, the group's Amaq news agency said, but provided no evidence for the claim.

"The security forces foiled their plan", he added.

An emergency has been declared in all public hospitals in Quetta.

Hospital officials said two women were among the dead while another five women and two children were among the wounded.

The IGP said security had been beefed up across the province in the wake of the church attack. About 60 people were also injured.

In October eight people including seven policemen were killed in a terrorist attack.

Pakistan's Christian minority is frequently the target of extermist attacks, and the government has provided the communities' churches with armed guards.

It was the first time ISIS has claimed an attack on a church in Pakistan, though Muslim extremists have claimed church attacks in the past.

Foreign Office spokesperson Muhammad Faisal condemned the terror attack, saying Pakistan's resolve against terrorism can not be deterred by these cowardly acts of terrorists. "They are fighting against terrorists and our war will continue till complete elimination of the terrorists", he highlighted.
