Donald Trump canceled Neil Gorsuch Supreme Court nomination

Trump disputes report he was angry over Gorsuch comments

"A story in the Washington Post that I was close to "rescinding" the nomination of Justice Gorsuch prior to confirmation is FAKE NEWS", Trump wrote on Twitter. "The unnamed sources don't exist!"

Indeed, Trump is said to have exploded over the apparent criticism from Gorsuch-prompting fears the Supreme Court Justice's confirmation would collapse.

President Trump had reportedly been unhappy that Gorsuch hadn't been appreciative enough of the nomination, and was anxious after Gorsuch appeared to be critical of some of Trump's statements regarding federal courts. Richard Blumenthal that Trump's attacks on the federal judiciary were "disheartening" and "demoralizing," Trump reportedly had an outburst expressing concerns that Gorsuch was insufficiently grateful for the appointment and would not be "loyal". Though Gorsuch wrote a handwritten letter dated March 2 thanking Trump for the nomination, Trump did not see it until eight days later, The Post reported.

The White House pushed back against The Post's report.

Consequently, Trump was "tempted to pull Gorsuch's nomination", saying plenty of other judges would want the job.

As a Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch has already swayed the Court further to the right, in rulings, in cases accepted, and in cases denied. "And you were so kind to recognize Mrs. Scalia, remember the justice [Scalia], and mention me".

White House head of legislative affairs Marc Short admitted that the delay caused the president's frustration.

Even some of the president's conservative detractors, so-called "Never Trumpers", lauded him for nominating Gorsuch to sit on the highest court in the land.

Among those whose lack of loyalty have reportedly frustrated Trump, in addition to Gorsuch, are former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein.

McConnell made good on his promise to ensure the rest of the process went smoothly, and the Senate confirmed Gorsuch by a vote of 54-45 on April 7. "You never know with these guys".
